Ken was born June 09, 1968 in Toronto, Canada. His first bike was given to him on his 4th birthday. 2 years later, his parents gave him his first “10 Speed” bike with 24” wheels. This bike took him on many adventures, some he cannot tell you about as his parents still don’t know how many times he broke the 3 block radius rule. By the time he entered university, the Road Racing bug had bitten him! He worked for years at a bike shop in downtown Denver. During the winters, he worked as a bike messenger, which he believed was the coolest job at the time, getting paid by delivery and being outside all day in all weather conditions. On the weekends, He would race either cross, mountain or road.

Ken Whelpdale - 3F SportsThrough some bike shop friends, He was invited to work a bicycling tour in Colorado. He loved working as a mechanic in a different place everyday. He worked for such events as “Pedal the Peaks” and “Ride the Rockies.” His first job in “Pro” cycling was with a small team racing in the “Tour de Langkawi” in Malaysia. For the next seven years, He worked full-time as a race mechanic, travelling all over the world, for such road teams as Saturn Cycling, Prime Alliance, the German National Team, the USA Cycling Team and Gerolsteiner Professional Cycling Team. He has worked at the Tour de France, Paris Roubaix, the 2004 Athens Olympics and numerous Road World Championships.

In the winter of 2006, he was offered the opportunity to close the tool box and take on the challenges of managing the USA Cycling Team. Since taking on this role, he managed more than 31 World Championships in events such as CX, BMX, JR Road and Track, MTB and Road World Championships, the 2007/2011 Pan American Games and the 2008/2012 Olympic Games. Over these 7 years, He has had the opportunity to serve and help 1000’s of athletes to realize their athletic goals.

In June of 2009, Ken formed “3F Sports.” After years of serving athletes, he found that their friends, family and fans were underserved and left scrambling to arrange last minute accommodations etc. Our goal is to provide VIP-style viewing opportunities, pro-team experiences and excellent services related to elite sporting events.
